How Handclapping Got Started in the Church

Sugar roads and sugar toes
Sugarfoots and all that glows
In my hand the stones will be
And my imagination
Will be with me…"

And with that, the Sugarfoots dolls come to life. Babelle, a young African-American girl who is the appointed caretaker of the Sugarfoots, magically arranges for the Sugarfoots second journey - this time to the South! In the blink of an eye Babelle and her Sugarfoots are right at the door of the Ol' Wilson Southern Baptist Church.

Babelle cannot wait to introduce the Sugarfoots to her Aunt Fannie, who is very knowledgeable about everything. She knew Aunt Fannie would be the right person to explain to the Sugarfoots how handclapping got started in the church.

In a bustling world of video mania, children as well as parents will delight in taking a break from the keyboard, while learning about the joy of folklore, especially with a Brer' Rabbit tale! Stories that have been passed down for generations will intrigue young minds and bring smiles of remembrance from parents about these dubious fables of yesteryear with a fresh new twist.

It will be up to them to determine if the folktale is true or not…

Why People Have to Work

"Sugar roads and sugar toes
Sugarfoots and all that glows
In my hand the stones will be
And my imagination will
Always be with me…"

And with that, the Sugarfoots dolls come to life and Babelle, a young African-American girl who is the appointed caretaker of the Sugarfoots, magically arranges a trip to the continent of West Africa! In the blink of an eye they have landed in Keta a little costal village, in Ghana, West Africa overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Luckily for them, Abla, a Ghanaian born girl, has been awaiting there arrival and is very excited to see them. She cannot wait to take them to her village in Agbozume, to see the many every day sites of Ghana.

The Sugarfoots are full of questions, thirsty, hungry and eager to find out what folktales they can learn about and take them back to their Sugarfoots village. Abla, who is a very clever storyteller, has the perfect folktale in store for them.

Babelle loves living in the lovely Village of the Sugarfoots. Everything and everyone in The Sugarfoots Village is always picturesque and delightfully colorful. It is said that because the fabrics in The Sugarfoots Village are so vibrant, it makes all Sugarfoots created there magnificently magical! And if you have the right ears for listening, you can actually hear a Sugarfoot speak to you.

"You can always tell when you come face to face with a genuine Sugarfoot," Babelle said smiling at her dolls in the basket, "cause a genuine Sugarfoot will always make you wanna smile, no matter how you're feeling at any time of day."

Babelle's job is to help create Sugarfoots dolls and to find homes for every Sugarfoot in the village. The tradition of creating Sugarfoots was passed down to Babelle from her great, great, great, great, great, great, great, GREAT, Grannyfootn'...
